About My Work
Every portrait begins with a deep appreciation for your pet and ends with a 100% handmade, museum-quality piece of art.
Each of these portraits is fully hand-painted in oils, using only the highest-quality materials and traditional, highly archival techniques. Every piece is crafted on a handmade wooden panel and tailored precisely to the client’s wishes.
I build each panel by hand in my studio in Blankenberge, Belgium, using the finest Baltic birch and teak cradling. The panels are prepared using time-tested, archival techniques, ensuring your portrait is as enduring as the love it represents—lasting hundreds of years if cared for properly.
Painted in oils, each portrait is a one-of-a-kind celebration of your pet, created with as much care as possible.

Commissions
I can work from high-quality photographs provided by you or arrange a photography session for local clients. If you’re commissioning remotely, I’ll guide you through the process of selecting the best reference image for your painting.
The smallest portrait size I offer is 24 x 30 cm, which typically takes about two weeks to complete. Larger sizes and more complex compositions will require additional time. If you have a specific deadline, let me know, and I’ll do my best to accommodate your request.
FAQs
How much does a pet portrait cost?
Pricing depends on the size and complexity of the piece. Contact me for a no-obligation quote tailored to your needs.
Can you work from photos?
Yes. I work from client-provided photographs and can offer advice on selecting the best image for your portrait before we begin.
Do you offer portraits of pets other than dogs?
Of course! I work with all kinds of animals—from cats and birds to horses and exotic pets.
How long does it take to complete a painting?
A 24 x 30 cm painting typically takes about two weeks. Larger or more detailed pieces may take longer. I’ll provide an estimated timeline when your commission is confirmed.
Do you offer framing?
I don’t currently offer framing services, but I can recommend local framers or provide advice on the best framing options for your artwork.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, I ship worldwide. Shipping costs depend on the destination and will be included in your quote.
Where are you located?
I’m based in Blankenberge, Belgium. Local clients are welcome to arrange in-person consultations or photography sessions.
What materials do you use for your paintings?
I work exclusively on hand-built wooden panels made from Baltic birch with teak cradling. This provides a highly stable and durable surface, far superior to canvas in terms of longevity. Each panel is prepared using traditional archival techniques to ensure the painting lasts for generations.
Why do you paint on wood instead of canvas?
Wood panels have been used for centuries and offer greater stability than canvas, which can sag or warp over time. Properly prepared wood minimizes the risk of cracking and ensures your portrait remains in excellent condition for hundreds of years.
Can you create a custom-sized or uniquely shaped painting?
Yes! Since I build my own panels, I can create paintings in custom sizes to fit specific frames or unique shapes based on your vision. If you have something specific in mind, feel free to reach out.
Do you offer special finishes or edge treatments?
Absolutely. If you prefer to display your portrait without a frame, I offer several options, including exposed underpainting edges, continued painting along the sides for a 3D effect, or even a 24-carat gilded finish.
How do you protect the painting to ensure it lasts?
Each panel is sealed with an archival PVA size to protect against moisture, followed by multiple layers of gesso. I use only high-quality, lightfast oil paints and non-yellowing mediums. Once completed, the painting receives a temporary retouching varnish. After six months, local clients can return for a free final varnish application, which can be matte, satin, or gloss based on preference.
Let’s create a lasting tribute to your beloved pet. Whether you’re celebrating their personality, commemorating their memory, or giving a meaningful gift, I’m here to help. Contact me today for more information or to request a quote.

What Sets My Work Apart?
I am deeply invested in the archival quality of my paintings, ensuring that every piece I create is built to last for generations. My research into traditional techniques and high-quality materials results in artwork that, with proper care, can endure for hundreds of years.
Unlike many contemporary pet portraits painted on canvas, I work exclusively on hand-built wooden panels—a time-honored substrate known for its superior durability and stability. I craft each panel myself using Baltic birch and teak cradling, providing a rigid, custom-made surface tailored precisely to your needs.
Looking for a specific size to fit an antique frame? Hoping for a uniquely shaped piece that stands out? I can accommodate fully bespoke requests. Even finishing touches like exposed underpainting edges, painted sides for a three-dimensional effect, or a 24-carat gilded finish are possible.
Materials & Process
Every aspect of my process is carefully considered to maximize longevity:
Wood Preparation – Each panel is meticulously sized on all sides with an archival PVA barrier, preventing moisture absorption and ensuring stability.
Ground Layers – Up to five coats of high-quality gesso are applied, creating the ideal surface for painting.
Oil Paints & Mediums – I use only the finest, completely lightfast pigments, free of fillers, combined with non-yellowing, non-brittle mediums.
Varnishing – A temporary retouching varnish is applied after initial drying. For local clients, I offer a complimentary final varnish application after six months, ensuring optimal protection and finish (matte, satin, or gloss).
