Jij, Fien en een toverkist vol superkrachten

About the Book

Jij, Fien en een Toverkist vol Superkrachten is a Dutch-language children’s book written by psychologist Virginie Van Zandweghe of the iTransform practice (Blankenberge/Bruges), with vibrant, full-page illustrations by Brent Bourguignon.

This book is designed for children aged 7 to 12 and fits perfectly into their world. It takes readers through a typical day in the life of school-aged children while addressing common challenges often explored in child counseling, such as coping with stress, managing (performance) anxiety, and overcoming excessive worrying.

The story’s main character, Fien, guides us on a journey through her day. Along the way, she discovers a magical chest containing five “superpowers,” which she learns to use to handle everyday tensions in a positive and constructive way.

Behind the Scenes

Published by Uitgeverij Stokstaart, this book comes to life with digitally painted illustrations that incorporate bold colors and maximalist patterns, inspired by postmodernist playfulness. These design choices make every page as fun and exciting as the story itself, guiding readers through Fien’s day with a sense of wonder and adventure.

To elevate the experience, the entire book is conceived as a literal rollercoaster ride, with the rollercoaster itself threading through the narrative, carrying readers from page to page. While the story is filled with magical realism, it teaches children practical, research-based techniques to manage everyday challenges in a positive way.
